Lighthouse Gateway™ Delivers Enhanced ‘Self-Service’ Identity Management Tools
9/22/2010
New features give customers even greater control over cost-saving self-service features within the Lighthouse Gateway cloud-based Identity and Access Management solution.
LINCOLN, RI – September 22, 2010 – Lighthouse Security Group announced today that it has enhanced the “self-service” tools within its Lighthouse Gateway cloud-based Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution. These new features give customers more flexibility and control over the way end-users interact with the self-service components within Lighthouse Gateway.
Lighthouse Gateway self-service tools streamline end-user account registration and reduce the number of help desk calls related to password resets. As a result, self-service reduces help desk costs and frees up technical staff for projects that add business value to the organization. Minimizing routine, repetitive tasks also aids in the retention of technical employees.
Self-service helps increase productivity by minimizing time lost to account setup and forgotten passwords. Security is also improved through comprehensive end-user identity validation.
“Self-service is a lynchpin capability that helps to further optimize the ROI of Lighthouse Gateway,” said Eric Z. Maass, Enterprise Security Solutions Director for Lighthouse Security Group. “Approximately 80 percent of all help desk calls are related to password resets, and self-service helps alleviate the strain on the help desk and the investment in human capital required to provide this kind of basic support. These new enhancements reflect our commitment to provide cutting-edge identity management automation that meets our customers’ business requirements.

The Self Service tools are fully brandable and provide point-and-click control over Self Registration, Password Reset and many other workflow options and policies. Branding and Theme Controls. New branding and theme controls allow customers to customize the look and feel of the self-service features so that they appear as an integrated part of the customer’s Web environment or enterprise portal. This easy-to-use, “point-and-click” feature enables non-technical users to select a template and choose fonts, colors, logo placement and other design options without knowing HTML code.
Validation Controls. Enhanced validation controls give customers more options for validating an end-user’s identity during the registration process. Expanded knowledge-based authentication (KBA) functionality uses challenge questions and identity-attribute validation as optional components of the password reset workflow.
Notifications. The new features also give customers more options for notifying both end-users and administrators throughout the self-service process. Organizations can create customized messages that are automatically sent to end-users based upon the outcome of the registration or password reset. Network administrators can also be notified if a registration or password reset failed.
Lighthouse Gateway is a cloud-based platform that delivers all the benefits of a complete IAM infrastructure while reducing the cost and risk associated with purchasing, deploying and maintaining an in-house IAM solution. Lighthouse Gateway affords organizations the benefit of a compliant, industry-leading, open standard-based IAM solution at a fraction of the cost of deploying a conventional in-house infrastructure. On average, the Lighthouse Gateway service will cost companies 30 percent to 60 percent less over the first three years of operation when compared to full ownership costs.
“As the name implies, self-service allows end-users to manage their identities on a particular system,” said Maass. “Self-service enables customers to automate manual processes related to end-user registration, password resets and other common identity management tasks. Lighthouse has built upon its comprehensive suite of self-service components to enhance the end-user experience and give customers more validation, authentication and notification options.”
